Textiles Write For Us

What Are Textiles?

Textiles are any filament, fiber, or thread that can be made into fabric or cloth, as well as the resulting material itself.

The term derives from the Latin textilis and the French texere, meaning “to weave”, and originally referred only to woven fabrics. However, it has come to include tissue made by other methods.

Yarns, strings, cords, braids, lace, embroidery, nets and fabrics that are produced by weaving, knitting, gluing, felting or tufting are finest textiles.

Some definitions of the term “textile” include those products derived from the principle of papermaking. It has many of the properties associated with traditional fabrics.

The Different Types Of Textiles

First, “cloth” is a material made by interlacing fibers. Generally, a fabric bears the name of the fiber’s user to create it.

Some fabrics even use a blend of different fibers. The fabric is then named based on the fiber(s) used, its pattern and it’s texture, and production process carried out.

Some fabrics also take into account where the fibers come from.

Based on this, there are actually two groups of categories that separate the types of textiles: the fibers used (natural or synthetic) and the manufacturing process (woven vs. knitted).

The first different detail in the fabrics depends on the type of fiber used.

There ar2 types: natural and synthetic.

Natural fibers are obtaining from plants and animals.

For example, the cotton comes from plants while silk comes from silkworms.

Synthetic fibers, on the other hand, consist of fully synthetic man-made substances.

Woven And Knitted

The second different detail is the production process used. Again, there are 2 types: woven and knitted.

Woven fabrics are made from 2 pieces of yarn that are interlaced horizontally and vertically on a loom.

Because the yarn is laid out at a 45 degree angle, the fabric does not stretch and is generally firmer and stronger than woven fabrics.

These fabric consists of a weft (when the thread runs the width of the fabric) and a warp (when the thread runs the length of the loom).

There are three types of weave: plain weave, satin weave and twill weave. Examples of popular woven fabrics include chiffon, crepe, denim, linen, satin, and silk.

When knitting, think of a handknit scar; The yarn is formed into an interconnected loop design, allowing it to stretch significantly. Knitted fabrics are known for being stretchy and holding their shape.
